B&W photograph. George Higinbotham 1826-1892 was Chief Justice of Victoria 1880, editor of The Argus 1856-1859, held the Brighton seat in the Legislative assembly 1861 and was Attorney General in the McCulloch Ministry 1863-68. Defeated at the election by Thomas Bent 1871. Held East Bourke seat 1874-76. Supreme Court Judge 1880. He was a benefactor of the Brighton Mechanics Institute(later Library) and lived at "Warrain" in Brighton.
