In the early 1930s Winifred Fortescue and her husband Sir John, settled in Provence, in a small stone house amidst olive groves. Almost at once they were bewitched: by the scenery, by their garden - a terraced landscape of vines, wild flowers, roses and lavender - and by the charming, infuriating, warm-hearted and wily Provencals. After the liberation of France, Lady Fortescue returns to France to search for her friends of whom she had scant news. With her distinctive and spirited manner, Lady Fortescue brings alive a changed Provence in this book packed with incident, atmosphere and above all hope.
