Information written on the back of the photograph: "Build up of sand behind Yacht Club breakwater, just north of Sandown Street. Prior to the building of this rock wall breakwater a very good sandy beach existed from the middle Brighton Pier to Bay Road. Immediate ly the wall was built this beach, particularly at the Bay Road end, started to erode and finally disappeared altogether."
