The story of Oodgeroo Noonuccal's (Kath Walker's) relationships with several members of the Cilento family, and the life story of her son, Vivian Walker. Vivian's biological father was Rafe Cilento, eldest son of Sir Raphael and Lady Phyllis Cilento, but he wasn't openly acknowledged by his paternal family. Vivian became a successful choreographer and dancer, working in London, Paris, and Los Angeles, before returning home to Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island), where he died young of complications from HIV/AIDS.
