The Japanese festival of cherry blossom always reminds of the transience of human life. The cherry bloomed even after the nuclear accident in Fukushima (Japanese "lucky island") The novel is about the fascination of Japan, the dazzling lifeworlds of Western expats in Tokyo, but also about an out-of-control atomic technology. The stories begin in the midst of that disaster with all their captivating, frightening and tragic moments. It is about uprooting and escape, becoming foreign in the foreign and in one's own country, about the search for oneself and finally about new life designs. Some protagonists of the novel put themselves in danger by trying to reveal ominous consequences of the accident. Crimes should be clarified and a criminal nuclear deal should be prevented. It is also a sensational attempt to avoid future disasters through earthquake forecasting.
