This painting of Thomas Anne Ward Cole, nee McCrea was painted by the portrait painter John Irvine, Edinburgh in 1858. She was born in 1810 and married Captain George Ward Cole in 1842 at the home of her brother Andrew McCrea and his wife Georgina McCrea. She went to live at St Ninians in Brighton where she had six children. St Ninians was the focal point of social life in Brighton.
