Summary

Bacci Pagano recognizes Maria, even if he hasn't seen her for thirty years. Just a moment to be catapulted to the time of his first investigation, in the mid-eighties. After a five-year spell spent in prison serving an unjust sentence and three years around the world, Bacci decided to use his infallible intuition to work as a private investigator. Ironically, the first case finds him a few kilometers from home, in a splendid villa on the Riviera di Levante. He must protect the family of engineer Silvano Rissi, a state industry manager. The atmosphere is far from serene: relations between Rissi and the charming wife Adriana are strained and, in the harbor overlooking the private beach of the residence, the outline of a luxurious and mysterious boat stands out. It doesn't escape Bacci's nose that there is something strange, even if he is distracted by the intoxicating scent of the beautiful and young Maria, the baby-sitter of little Daniele Rissi. He has no proof, but he feels that behind that simple job as a bodyguard there's more. And when he is attacked by an armed man and the activities aboard the mysterious yacht become more and more frantic, Bacci confirms that he can no longer trust anyone. It's time to face Rissi with an open face and try to understand the mystery behind Adriana's proud but always veiled eyes of sadness. What seemed an easy and risk-free undertaking, a first prestigious and well-paid job, drags Bacci through the shady dealings of an Italy that, behind the sparkling lights of economic well-being, reveals its corrupt and criminal soul to the world.
