These copy photographs of the 1960's have been taken of an original wetplate photograph of 1860. George Higinbotham (1826-1892) would have been 34 at the time. He was editor of the Argus 1856-1859, 1861 he held the Brighton seat in the Legislative Assembly, 1863-68 he was Attorney General and supreme court judge 1880 and Chief Justice of Victoria. He was a benefactor of Brighton Mechanics Institute and later the library. He lived at `Warrain' in Brighton.
