George Higinbotham, 1826-1892 was Chief Justice of Victoria 1880, editor of the Argus 1856-1859, 1861 held the Brighton seat in the Legislative Assembly, 1863-1868 Attorney General (McCulloch Ministry). 1871 defeated at the election by Thomas Bent. East Bourke Seat 1874-1876, Supreme Court Judge 1880, Benefactor of Brighton Mechanics Institute and later library. Lived at `Warrain' in Brighton.
